The charging system consists of three components: the rotor (spinning magnet), the stator (coil that generates AC power), and the voltage regulator (converts AC to controlled DC). Systematic testing identifies which component has failed — so you replace the right part the first time.
What's Included
- Battery state-of-charge verified (eliminate battery as the cause first)
- Charging voltage measured at battery with engine at 2,000 RPM — target 13.5–14.5V
- Stator AC output measured (phase-to-phase and phase-to-ground)
- Stator resistance test — identifies shorted or open windings
- Voltage regulator output verified
- Wiring inspection between components — damaged wiring is a common cause
- Written diagnosis and repair recommendation
Under-Charging vs. Over-Charging
Under 13.5V at 2,000 RPM: Stator, rotor, or regulator not producing enough power. Battery will slowly drain during riding.
Over 15V: Regulator stuck in full-charge mode. Will boil the battery and destroy it. Replace the regulator immediately — don't continue riding.
