EFI Fuel Mapping / Stage 1 Tune

Installing a Stage 1 air cleaner or aftermarket exhaust on an EFI Harley-Davidson without retuning the fuel injection creates a lean condition that robs power and stresses the engine. The factory ECM map was calibrated for the stock restrictive intake and exhaust. An EFI fuel map update is not optional — it's the essential second half of any Stage 1 modification.

Tuning Options

Harley Download (Free Power): Harley-Davidson's own ECM download for common Stage 1 part combinations. Straightforward for bikes running genuine Screamin' Eagle parts. Best starting point.

Piggyback Module (Dobeck TFI, Power Commander): Installs in-line with the stock ECM. Adds or subtracts fuel across the RPM range. More adjustable than a download, works with any air/exhaust combination.

Custom Dyno Tune: The most accurate approach — the bike is run on a dynamometer and the fuel map is optimized for your specific combination. Recommended for Stage 2 and Stage 3 builds.
