A torn CV boot or a clicking, clunking front end is the most common drivetrain complaint we see on Can-Am Outlanders, Renegades, and Maverick/Defender side-by-sides. Once a boot splits, mud and water get into the joint and destroy it fast — CV axle and half-shaft replacement is one of the highest-volume repairs in our shop, and for good reason: these machines take a beating that a road-going Harley never will.

What's Included

  • Wheel and skid plate removal for axle access
  • Old axle removed from the differential/gearcase and hub
  • Differential seal inspected — replaced if leaking
  • New axle installed with correct circlip/retaining hardware
  • CV boots checked at both inner and outer joints
  • Hub nut torqued to spec and cotter-pinned or staked as required
  • Differential fluid level checked and topped up

Signs You Need an Axle

  • Clicking noise on turns, especially at low speed (worn outer CV joint)
  • Clunk on acceleration or deceleration (worn inner joint or excessive play)
  • Visible torn or split CV boot with grease flung onto surrounding components
  • Vibration that increases with speed

OEM vs. Aftermarket Axles

For Can-Am models especially, we stock and install both OEM axles and heavy-duty aftermarket units (RAF, SuperATV, Demon) for riders who push their machines hard on rocky or high-torque terrain. A damaged boot caught early is a simple boot-and-grease repackage; caught late, it's a full axle. We inspect boots at every oil service so you're never surprised by a failure on the trail.
