Book This Service(902) 755-6532The Harley-Davidson transmission uses its own dedicated gear lubricant — separate from the engine oil and primary fluid on Big Twins. This is the most commonly skipped fluid service on American motorcycles, yet it's inexpensive and critical to gearbox longevity. Old, degraded transmission oil contributes to hard shifting, false neutrals, and eventually internal wear.
What's Included
- Transmission drain plug removal and full drain
- Fresh sealing washer on drain plug
- Refill with Harley Transmission Lubricant or GL-5 75W-90 equivalent
- Level check with bike on both wheels, upright
- Visual inspection for external seepage at mainshaft and output shaft seals
Interval
Harley specifies every 10,000 km (5-speed) or 16,000 km (6-speed Cruise Drive). In Nova Scotia's climate, we recommend annually regardless of mileage. Fluid capacity is approximately 500–950 ml depending on model.
