A worn or frayed clutch cable gives a vague, unpredictable lever feel and can break without warning — leaving you unable to shift gears. Replacing the cable before it fails is inexpensive preventive maintenance. Correct cable length, proper routing, and precise lever adjustment make a significant difference to how a Harley feels in everyday riding.

What's Included

  • Existing cable inspected for fraying, kinking, and housing damage
  • Cable measured — exact length replacement sourced
  • Old cable removed from both handlebar and primary/release end
  • New cable routed along correct path — cleared from all moving components
  • Handlebar and lower end connected and anchored
  • Free play set to 1/16"–1/8" at lever tip
  • Full handlebar sweep test — clutch feel must be consistent at full left and right lock

Cable Lubrication

Before replacement, we always try cable lubrication first. A dry cable causes heavy lever pull and accelerated wear. If lubrication restores smooth, light operation, replacement can be deferred. If the cable is fraying at either end or kinked, replacement is the correct call regardless of lubrication results.
